How to Update QuickGPSfix on Your TomTom Device
QuickGPSfix is a feature that helps your TomTom device to find your location faster by using the signals of at least four satellites. It is especially useful when the GPS signal is weak or partially blocked. QuickGPSfix data is valid for up to seven days, so you need to update it regularly to ensure a quick start for your navigation.
There are different ways to update QuickGPSfix on your TomTom device, depending on the model and chipset you have. Here are some of the methods you can try:
Method 1: Using TomTom HOME
If you have a TomTom device that is compatible with TomTom HOME software, you can use it to update QuickGPSfix data. Here are the steps:
Download and install TomTom HOME on your computer from here.
Connect your TomTom device to your computer using a USB cable.
Launch TomTom HOME and log in with your TomTom account.
Select Update my device from the main menu.
Select QuickGPSfix from the list of available updates and click Update and install.
Wait for the update to complete and disconnect your device safely.
Method 2: Using MyDrive Connect
If you have a newer TomTom device that is compatible with MyDrive Connect software, you can use it to update QuickGPSfix data. Here are the steps:
Download and install MyDrive Connect on your computer from here.
Connect your TomTom device to your computer using a USB cable.
Launch MyDrive Connect and log in with your TomTom account.
Select My Content from the main menu.
Select QuickGPSfix from the list of available updates and click Update selected.
Wait for the update to complete and disconnect your device safely.
Method 3: Using QuickGPSfix Update Tool
If you have a TomTom device that has a SiRFstar or GlobalLocate chipset, you can use a third-party tool called QuickGPSfix Update Tool to update QuickGPSfix data. Here are the steps:
Determine which chipset your device has by looking at the file name in the .\\\\ephem folder on your device. If it is lto.dat, then you have a GlobalLocate chipset. If it is packedephemeris.ee, then you have a SiRFstar chipset.
Download the QuickGPSfix Update Tool from here. It is a .rar file, so you need to extract it using a program like WinRAR or 7-Zip.
Copy the extracted files to the .\\\\ephem folder on your device.
Run the corresponding executable file for your chipset (GlobalLocate_TomTom.exe or Sirf_TomTom.exe) and wait for it to download and install the latest QuickGPSfix data.
Delete the files from the .\\\\ephem folder after the update is done.
Note: This tool requires an internet connection and Java installed on your computer. It may also trigger some antivirus warnings, but it is safe to use according to many users.
